OCTA ACCESS Transportation

Transportion for people with Parkinson’s  Disease need not be a problem.  We are not helpless, only handicapped. With a  little effort and perhaps a little help initially, you can reclaim your independence, at least with respect to getting around.

Fortunately, Orange County has an excellent and low cost
service, available to people with a handicap. It is provided by Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) and called ACCESS.

I recently arranged this service for myself. With a little help from my caregiver. With a phone and an ACCESS info booklet you can arrange for pickup and drop off times and locations for medical appointments, support group meetings and other commitments without burdening your caregiver.

The main phone number for reservations and information is 949 857 7188.  For information on eligibility call 714 560 5956.  Curb to curb service is only $2.70 each way.  You may buy a book of coupons or  use exact change. Door to door service at pickup and destination is $12.70 each way. Personal care attendants ride free. For emergency travel or without scheduled reservations they offer discounted taxi fare.

Eligibility is established by interview at their Santa Ana office. Please call 714 560 5956 or visit the Orange County Transportation Authority Access Service web site for further eligibility information.
